39th Anniversary of Independance for Bangladesh

Independance DayTributes were paid today for the sacrifices required to win the countries independence and freedom of language. Wreaths were laid by President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina  at the National Mausoleum in Savar this morning and by Khaleda Zia chair of the BNP.
Representatives of all parts of the state, armed forces, veterans and dignitaries paid their respects as did the thousands who visited the Mausoleum for this occasion. Always such occasions are a mixture of sadness and celebration – as Muhammad Faruk Khan, Bangladesh Minister of Commerce said at a meeting in Manchester, UK yesterday “We shed blood for our language then, but we are all Bangladeshi’s now”
