39th Independence Day marked by Rochdale’s Bangladeshis

rochdale bangladeshi partnership projectToday (26th March 2010) is the 39th independence day of Bangladesh. The Rochdale Bangladeshi Partnership Project (RBPP), which setup a Friendship Link between Rochdale & Sylhet last year, would like to wish the Bangladeshi community and everyone connected with Bangladesh a happy independence day. The RBPP pays tribute to all those who lost their lives for the freedom of independent Bangladesh, without their courage and struggle we would not have gained a country so green, so rich in culture and a land now of 157 million people who are some of the most open-hearted people you will ever have the honor to meet.

The RBPP member’s joined the Bangladesh Association & Community Project alongside the Mayor of Rochdale Cllr Keith Swift, Paul Rown MP, Jim Dobbin MP, Prospective Labour Parliamentary Candidate Simon Danzchuk, Councillor’s Farooq Ahmed, Zulfiqar Ali, Imtiaz Ahmed, James Gartside & Mohammad Sharif amongst other local dignitaries and community members including the former Mayor of Rochdale Sultan Ali to raise the Bangladesh Flag outside the Town Hall at 11.00am. We were fortunate to have amongst us another special guest Mr Amir Ali (Chairman – Daulatpur Union, Sylhet, Bangladesh) which was co-ordinated by Abdul Rohim Ranju. The RBPP organised a reception with the Mayor at the Town Hall for Mr Ali and local dignitaries.
