    About some chips

by st editor Saturday 6th February 2010

They’re hot and fluffy inside and tasty and crispy on the outside, one of the few foods that are best eaten in the rain and one of those Great British Traditions we all love. Not merely chips but in fact symbols. Symbols that when mixed with that other beloved tradition curry – become a cross cultural carton of delight that verily sums up the world we live in.

These thoughts were prompted by a particularly delicious lunch from Mr Chippy on Oldham Market who not only does some of the best chips around but also does halal and always serves a  hello and a smile to go with them.

Another great delicacy that says so much: Chutney and Chips. We haven’t tried Mr Chippy’s but we do love the chutney’n'chips from the International in Rochdale, which itself inspired a scene in “The Rickshawman” a film under development – but that’s a whole ‘nother story for another time.
