Air Sylhet, the only private airline company owned by the British Bangladeshis, has finally launched its journey brushing aside all speculations. After its efforts for more than two years a passenger carrying Boeing 757 of Air Sylhet launched its journey on April 4, 2009 in the international route. Initially the Boeing flight of Air Sylhet will start operation from Birmingham to Amritsar of India via Vienna .
A press conference was held on behalf of the company on April 4, 2009 at Birmingham International Airport in connection with the inauguration of the first flight of this airline. The press conference was attended among others by Air Sylhet Chairman Kabir Khan, Vice Chairman Alhaj Shab Uddin, Finance Director Shalim Uddin, Community Relation Director KM Abu Taher Chowdhury, Retail and Sales director ASM Enam Ur Rahman, Investor Director Mohammed Ali alias Salik, Director Md. Suruk Miah and Air Sylhet Bangladesh Representative Prof. Omar Faruque. Greater Sylhet Council UK Chairman Md. Monchab Ali, Joint Secretary of the Central Committee of GSC Khusru Khan, Community Leader Arju Miah MBE, Mustaf Jubaraj, Sheikh Md. Mofizur Rahman, Faruk Miah, HM Ashraf Ahmed, Talha Noor, Hannan Miah, Saiful Islam were also present. The business development manager Mark Watkins, Duty manager Ms. Crecy of Birmingham Int’l Airport were also present there.
Air Sylhet Chairman Kabir Khan said now Air Sylhet is an officially recognized Airline Company by the European Union. The activities of this company will be controlled under the rules and regulations framed by the European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA), he said adding from now onward Air Sylhet will operate flights in different routes throughout the world as a global airline. Air Sylhet will start flight operation for Dhaka , Sylhet and Jeddah soon, he informed the journalists.
In an opinion exchange meeting of the Bangladeshi community and the people from different communities and professions held in Oldham town of England in UK on February 28, 2007 some businessman of the British Bangladeshis had declared their plan to lunch a new Airline Company named Air Sylhet. At that time they had also assured that Air Sylhet would carry both passengers and goods in different int’l routes and this would be a low cost Airline Company. In that meeting they also declared that this company established entirely on private basis will operate its flights in different international routes from the UK . It was also mentioned in the meeting that this company will give more attention to the community welfare than its commercial profits.
The directors of Air Sylhet thanked the shareholders, well-wishers; Bangladeshi journalists in UK and above all, the community people at all level for their participation in this programme and thus make it a total success.
Meanwhile on return from Amritsar of India on 5th April, Air Sylhet arranged another press conference in London on 7th April. The press conference was attended among others by the chairman Kabir Khan, vice chairman Sab Uddin, finance director Salim Uddin, Community Relations Director KM Abu Taher Choudhury, Investors Director Mohammed Ali (Salik), Director Suruk Miah and Bangladesh Representative of Air Sylhet Professor Omar Faruque. They announced the promotional package for the visitors to Vienna on special discount rate
