The much awaited business oscars for Oldham was held at the Queen Elizabeth hall in Oldham at the end of October 2008. It was a glamorous event with business to business exhibition being one of the main attractions of the event. A range of Asian businesses in Oldham were recognised for their hard work including Sylhet Times the newly established media business. Technology Business of the Year — Sylhet Times.
There was a tribute to Ajit Medtia, Oldham born property developer who died earlier this year.
Mo Chaudry, a self-made millionaire from the Potteries, spoke of establishing himself as a businessman, including rescuing the Waterworld theme park in Stoke-on-Trent.
Charlie Parker, the new chief executive of Oldham Council, who, in his first public speaking engagement since taking up his post spoke of the depth of diversity within Oldham and the part that the business community had to play on Oldham’s journey.
