Brac – Sightsavers – Vision Bangladesh Charity Dinner

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed and Haj Nasir Ahmed The charity fund-raising dinner was held on the 13th at the Bengal Dynasty in Wincham, Chester. The event was attended by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Irene Khan, Zulfar Ali the Mayor of Rochdale, Deputy Alison Gerard the Deputy Mayor of Northwich, Mirza Ashab Baig, Haji Nasir Ahmed – Patron of Greater Sylhet Council in the UK, Monchab Ali JP. The vote of thanks was given by Sufu Miah and the MC for the night was Muzahid Khan.

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed was the key speaker speaker as the founder and chair of Brac the world’s largest NGO which is now exporting its expertise from Bangladesh to the world at large. He spoke inspiringly of his journey from the beginnings of Brac to current projects and the particular campaign that was the reason for the evenings’s event – the project to provide sight-saving cataract operations, currently in Sylhet and then elsewhere in Bangladesh. A subject close to the heart of Mizanur Rahman of the Just Help Foundation which has also helped to fund such operations. At the close Mizanur presented Sir Fazle with a Just Help Foundation T-Shirt to commemorate the event.

The event raised on the night to save the sight of 166 people with operations costing £30 each. Operations the effect of which will improve the lives of hundreds of people – not just the individuals themselves, but their families and communities too.

After-dinner entertainment was provided by the award winning singer Sanjay Dey whose songs were thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
