    Channel S Award Winners 2010

    Channel S AwardsTonight saw the 3rd Annual Channel S Awards honouring exemplary individuals and organisations who have shown commitment, creativity and innovation to make significant contributions to British/Bangladeshi society.
    From this year the Cultural Award will be known as the “Baul Shomrat Shah Abdul Karim” Award in tribute to the legendary folk singer.
    Also new this year the Posthumous Award for Contributions to the Community recognising the work of those who are no longer with us.

    The gala event was attended by an audience of over 500 of the great and the good from all over the country including many MP’s and prospective parliamentary candidates like Tower Hamlets Rushanara Ali.
    Other personalities present included Iqbal Ahmed OBE, Anwar Choudhury (former High Commissioner to Bangladesh), Stephen Timms MP, Anne Maine MP and Frank Dobson MP.

    To set the scene a video of was shown of previous awards events.
    The programme was presented by BBC3′s Tasmin Lucia Khan with music for the night was performed by up and coming R&B artists Mamzy of Bangladeshi origin, Rubayat Jahan, Hashi Rani and Poroshmoni.

    The awards were:
    Award for Contribution to the Community – Midlands goes to, Gulam Mustafa Choudhury

    Award for Contribution to the Community – North goes to Makhlisur Rahman

    Award for Contribution to the Community – London goes to Shahena Ali (who is also a celebrity chef)

    Award for Contribution to the Community – South goes to Syed Aminul Haque

    Award for Contribution to the Community – Wales goes to Sheikh Tahir Ullah

    Award for Contribution to the Community – Scotland goes to Dr Mozammel Haque

    Award for achievement in Education – GCSE goes to Ibtesham Tausif Hossain and also to Yasmin Jolly from Oldham with 16 GCSE A-Stars

    Award for achievement in Education – A Level goes to Taslima Haque  And Promit Anwar

    Award for achievement in Education – Graduate goes to Rehana Khanam

    Award for achievement in Education – Post Graduategoes to Dr Dhalia Masud

    Award for achievement in Education – Research Dr Nazrul Islam

    Best Community Organisation – London Tigers

    Investor of the Year in Bangladesh – Barkatullah Electro Dynamics Ltd

    Business Personality of the Year – Wazid Hasan Shelim

    Friend of Bangladesh – Sue Davies

    The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Abdul Matin

    The Baul Shomrat Shah Abdul Karim Award for Contribution to Culture goes to Himangshu Goswami

    The Posthumous Award was to the late Tasadduk Ahmed MBE

    The Channel S Special Award for Contribution by a Bangladeshi on the world platform went to Partha Pratim Majumdar.
