8th April 2010: Colette Burgess, Principal Designate of The Oldham Academy North, which will replace the existing Grange School from September 2010, is very keen to ensure that the community are kept informed about what is happening and she is available to discuss the transfer to academy status and the exciting opportunities that it presents for students and the community. Ms Burgess wishes to ensure that all children intending to apply for a place at the Academy are given the opportunity to be part of one of the most exciting developments to take place in Oldham in recent years. The multi million pound project will be a huge investment for the Oldham communities and we are keen to ensure that all local children benefit.
Sponsored by educational charity, E-ACT, the new Academy will continue to build on the Grange’s existing specialisms in the Visual Arts and Languages and will also benefit from the introduction of exciting new technology and resources. Initiatives currently being discussed include the provision of iPodtouch’s to year 7 students to assist in home/school communication and enable all students to access the internet in and around school and other WiFi enabled areas.Ms Burgess comments, ‘Plans are well underway to ensure a smooth transition to Academy status in September and everyone involved is confident that our Academy will offer opportunities which will transform the life chances of its students. We will be leading by example and introducing a range of innovative initiatives building on the existing success of the Grange’s visual arts department. These are exciting times and we would like as many students as possible to be able to benefit from the changes currently taking place’.
