Global Peace and Unity Event 2008

Islam Channel, once again hosted the biggest Muslim event, and this year, it was even more spectacular attracting up to 50,000 people at the venue. Originating from Europe, the event is the first of its kind that works towards promoting the need for global peace among all faith groups and communities across Britain and the globe. The two days family event, aims to break barriers and build bridges between Muslims and various cultural groups, celebrating the rich diverse world we live in.

Also, for the first time in Europe, the Global Peace & Unity Event presented an exhibition of Islam’s two holy mosques in Saudi Arabia.

Guests included a panel of prominent speakers such as Lord Nazir Ahmed (Labour peer), Lord Mohamed Sheikh (Conservative Peer), Sir Iqbal Sacranie (Former Secretary General, MCB), Dr Abdul Bari (Secretary General MCB), Sadiq Khan MP (Labour Party) Imran Khan (Lawyer) Dr Jamal Badawai (Canada) Dr Israr Ahmed (Pakistan), Dr Bilal Philips (Qatar), Shaykh Yusuf Estes (USA) Yvonne Ridley (Journalist and Political Editor) Salma Yaqoob (Respect Party) and many others.

Over the last few years, a new form of innovative Islamic infused music known as (nasheeds) have become extremely popular amongst Muslim children, teenagers and adults, across the world. As an alternative to popular music, the styles of songs, sung in English, Arabic and Urdu range from RnB, Hip Hop, Folk, Rap to traditional beats, which have been formulated as a means to promote positives messages about Islam and the hope for a unified and peaceful world.

Performing on stage where international Muslim artists including, America’s most successful Muslim Hip Hop bands, Native Deen and Seven 8 Six. Performing innovative upbeat prolific poetry will be Brother Dash. From Canada, Dawud Warnsby Ali. South Africa, Zain Bikha, Mesud Kurtis, and Hamza Robertson. Mohammed Al-Husayan, Ahmed Bukhatir.
