On Sunday 17th a fun-run was held for the building of the Central Masjid on Featherstall Road, Oldham.
Money was being raised for the ongoing construction by sponsored runners, an entry fee and sales of t-shirts, which were very popular indeed.
The course was 12.6 km starting and finish at the Anchor Mill car park, which is directly opposite the site where the building of the mosque is in progress. The first to return completed the run in about 20 minutes and most within half-an-hour.
The unpredictable weather proved no obstacle and while the previous day had seen record downpours only clouds were in evidence on the day. Combined with the enthusiasm for the even this provided for a great turnout, with runners of all ages as. Many familiar faces in the community took part including members of the local council took part, such as Labour Councillors Jabbar and Malik who both said “we really enjoyed it” Future runs were promised perhaps as an annual event, along with the option of a cycle-run as several participants and stewards arrived on their bicycles.
