The recent Charity Dinner for BRAC and Sightsavers Organised by Alam Ahmed at the Millon Restaurant in Westwood Oldham raised enough money for more than 80 eye operations each costing £30.
The event was attended by dignitaries from around the North-West including the very local councillor for Coldhurst Abdul Malik.
Those speaking included Penelope Mawson of BRAC UK, Collette Burgess – Principal of the new Oldham Academy North who spoke of the schools involvement with the local community, former head of St Hilda’s – Howard Buckley who spoke of his visit to Bangladesh some years ago and Richard Gore school improvement adviser at Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council who has long been involved in community cohesion.
Entertainment was provided by a return visit to the North-West by Singer Sanjay Day who also appeared at the event in Wincham, Cheshire earlier this year.
An auction was conducted by Muzahid Khan and Kashif Ashraf with a large range of football memorabilia provided by Abdul Basit. Raffle tickets were sold by Phil Buckley. Several restaurants provided meals as prizes for the raffle – the Millon of Westwood, Rucchi of Glossop, Basmati of Marple Bridge, Simla Inn of Royton and Blue Tiffen. Stella Services donated a Luxury Car Service & Valet.
In all a very entertaining and enlightening evening was had by all and a good result for Vision Bangladesh.
