Organised by UK-based expats to promote the country’s sports, tourism, culture and heritage internationally and the Dhaka Big Bangla Run aims to encourage healthy lifestyle choices to promote the development of community sports and inspire Bangladeshi athletes to succeed in the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. The Big Bangla Run launched with a press conference at Dhaka’s National Press Club in October and sports Actor Ferous Ahmed, Grandmaster Dr. Yuree and Jewel Rana as ambassadors.
The organisers have set a target of $150,000 for under-priviledged children in Bangladesh which is to be raised by registrations for the run. Local runners will pay Tk500 to and foreign runners will be charged $20 to run, with an anticipated 5000 participants hoped to take part .
Tony Haseeb, publicity manager of the Big Bangla Run says, that if successful they will also stage a second event 8th November 2013 – a Dhaka International Half Marathon.
The Great Bangla Run will start at 8.00am from Gulshan Ladies Club then via Gulshan-1,Tejgoan Industrial Area – Mohakhali, Jahangir Gate, Sarani and Khamarbari to end at Manik Mia Avenue.
