Rushanara Runs in Tower Hamlets

Rushanara Ali Labour Pariliamentary Candidate for Bethnal Green & BowTower Hamlet’s Rushanara Ali, previously a Parliamentary Assistant to former Bethnal Green MP Oona King could become Labour’s first Bangladeshi female MP if she wins the hotly contested seat in Bethnal Green. Rushanara grew up in Tower Hamlets after arriving in the UK at the age of seven.
An Oxford graduate, she is a has been a Governor of Tower Hamlets College where she studied and is now Commissioner for the London Child Poverty Commission. She helped to set up Tower Hamlets Summer University for the borough’s teenagers and is also Associate Director of the Young Foundation in Tower Hamlets. Rushanara has also worked at the Institute for Public Policy Research, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the Home Office and is passionate about about protecting children and families from poverty, along with being a Trustee of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation – which supports people to realise their potential and have a better quality of life through education and the arts.
