The Just Help Foundation’s Saturday Supplementary School launched on the Sat 8th of October.
The latest addition to the Just Help team, recently-retired teacher Keith Parry OBE aims to help young people in Tameside to improve their Maths and their GCSE Grades.
We hope that this will be the first of many subject booster sessions for young people… If further funding can be sought then there will hopefully be sessions for English and Science added next year. In addition it is hoped that a bid will be submitted for a project aimed to increase the financial awareness of women from the local community.
The courses, consisting of twenty 90-minute sessions are running every Saturday 11am-12.30pm until March next year.
Places are limited to 10 boys and 10 girls who will need to complete a simple application form which can be collected from the Foundation office at 141, Market Street, Hyde, SK14 1HG or downloaded from the Foundation website: www.justhelpfoundation.org.uk.
Refreshments (soft drinks and biscuits) will be provided. Keith tells us that each young person will be asked for a contribution of £1.25 to attend each session but – “At the end of the project, if they have attended at least 15 sessions and worked well in the sessions, they will be given back everything they have paid,”
Mizanur Rahman, founder of the Just Help Foundation tells us “We will also be offering mother-tongue classes each Sunday from 11.00 till 12.30 – in Bangla – where the cost per session will be £1 – again with the full amount returned if the young person attends at least 15 of the 20 sessions.”
You can play a part and help this project to support local young people: “It would be great if a local business that is refurbishing their offices or training room would be willing to donate any equipment to the project – such as chairs, desks, flip charts, white boards, computers, data projectors etc. A photocopier would be excellent as well” says Mizanur.
Anyone interested in taking part in the Saturday Supplementary School or finding out more information – or any business willing to donate equipment to this good cause – should contact Keith on 07780 704865 or Mizanur on 07985 143304 – or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com .
